Dateline Disneyland - When Two Holidays Collide

Categories: Dateline Disneyland, Disneyland

Halloween Time at the Disneyland Resort wrapped up last night; however, even as guests flooded into the park in record numbers to celebrate the spooky season, Christmas decorations were popping up in the stores and  the castle itself was blanketed in fake snow.  It was a collision of two holidays throughout the park, as if Haunted Mansion Holiday's story line had seeped out into the park itself. New Orleans Square and A Bug's Land are all decked out for the holidays and within the next couple of weeks, the parks will be completely transformed into a winter wonderland. Meanwhile, construction continues on the World of Color platform in Paradise Bay as the water level rises.  Construction, merchandise, hotel, and operational updates in today's Dateline Disneyland as well as dozens of beautiful photos of the resort.

It’s A Great Big Beautiful Yesterday - A Look Back At Carousel of Progress

Categories: Alain Littaye, Disney World, Disneyland, Entertainment

Take a look with us at an attraction near and dear to the heart of Walt Disney himself, Carousel of Progress. First presented at the 1964 New York World's Fair, Carousel of Progress was a smash success and one of the most popular attractions at the Fair.  Walt embraced an optimistic view of humanity and of the future, both present in Carousel of Progress.  But progress itself forced the Carousel out of Disneyland in 1973 and to Disney World, where it remains (occasionally in temporary status) to this day.  Join us for a look back at this classic attraction complete with photos and video.  It's still a great big beautiful tomorrow!

A Rare Look At Marc Davis’ Classic Unbuilt Attraction, Western River Expedition

Categories: Alain Littaye, Disney World, Disneyland Paris

Marc Davis was an iconic Disney Imagineer responsible for many favorite attractions from Haunted Mansion to America Sings.  He had a knack for bringing out the comic relief in any subject or attraction.  Pirates of the Caribbean may have its share frightening elements, but it is Marc Davis' sometimes silly characters and gags which keep the tone fun and approachable and make it a timeless classic.  Many of his projects had a broad canvas and large scale.  But his masterpiece may never have been built.  For the then new Walt Disney World, Marc proposed a Pirates of the Caribbean type of attraction called Western River Expedition.  It would have been an epic attraction with classic Marc Davis characters and gags set in and around a western town.  While Disney World eventually passed up Western River to build the better known Pirates of the Caribbean, the attraction almost got built in another park in the early 1990's.  Join us for a rare look at a class attraction which never got built but which lingers in the minds of Disney fans and Imagineers.
