Have you been wondering about Disney’s secretive publicity campaign for “Are You 23?”   The buzz has been big, and they have heavily promoted a web site, but the clues are minimal and Disney won’t give away the answers until tomorrow.  But our intrepid reporter, Andy Castro, has scoured the web and has gotten to the bottom of the mystery for us.  It turns out that Are You 23 is a promo campaign for a new Disney Magazine, online community, and expo.  The success of MiceChat and fan events like the NFFC has Disney wanting a slice of the pie.  But their hubris at charging $15.95 for a magazine which publishes 4 times and year and which is merely a Disney publicity mag is not likely to result in huge subscriptions beyond the  rabid fan base.   If they really want to be successful, they should give the magazine away and finance it with advertising.  After all, the mag will be used to pitch vacations, DVDs, and other Disney products.  Too much hype from Disney over a vague promotional campaign designed to undermine MiceChat and other online fan communities.  We have a feeling that this will only make MiceChat even stronger!

Elsewhere in Andy’s update, we find photos and information about the transition of Paradise Pier in preparation for the new World of Color show slated for 2011.  And many of the refurb walls are finally down in Disneyland, just in time for the start of Spring Break.

The question is, will they allow critiques and the like that we write in these and other forums? Unlikely, we can pay to be censored? Where do I sign?
