Tiki Birds, Incredibles, and superheroes are in today’s Disneyland Resort news update. Some of these items open today, so be sure to read all the way through.
Tropical Hideaway on the Way
Welcome to our tropical hideaway, you lucky people you! If we weren’t in the show starting right away, we’d be in the audience too!
Walls went up around Aladdin’s Oasis in Disneyand’s Adventureland this week. It will soon become the Tropical Hideaway, a refreshment area which will likely serve Dole Whip, skewers, and other refreshments. It’s all part of the larger plan to make Disneyland’s walkways more . . . well . . . walkable.

The space is inspired by Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room, but the concept art on the exterior of the facility is for attractions in the area and not the Hideaway itself.

The current archway for Aladdin’s Oasis will be removed to make the Hideaway less hidden. It will also be more open to the Jungle Cruise, which will make it a fun space to sit and watch the action.

The walls went up and just one day demolition was underway.
It’s not a major attraction or even a very important project, and it’s certainly not the return of the Tahatian Terrace that we all wanted, but it is a step in the right direction and better than the under-used Aladdin’s Oasis.
Pixar Pier Preview Just $300
The Pier is one week away from a media preview and about a month away from official opening (on June 23rd). Some of the construction walls will soon be coming down, perhaps as soon as next week. If you can’t wait to join the masses on June 23rd, how about going to a special ticketed event on the 22nd? Disney is offering a ticket to be among the first to visit the new land for just $300. Yes, you read that correctly.
Here’s what you get for $300:
- Early entry into Pixar Pier – Explore Pixar Pier beginning at 3 p.m. on June 22nd.
- Ride Pixar Pier attractions – Be one of the first to ride the Incredicoaster (the rethemed California Screamin’ as well as enjoy the newly-rethemed Pixar Pal-A-Round (previously the Fun Wheel). Toy Story Midway Mania will also be operating that evening.
- Complimentary eats and treats – Taste your way through Pixar Pier with a sample of one item from each of the following establishments: Poultry Palace, Angry Dogs, Jack-Jack’s Cookie Num Nums, Senor Buzz Churros AND Adorable Snowman Frosted Treats.
- Enjoy special Pixar-themed entertainment, character encounters, fun photo locations and more! You will also be among the first to shop for Pixar Pier-specific merchandise.
- Memories to take home – You’ll receive unlimited downloads of Disney PhotoPass photos taken during the event, as well as a commemorative event credential and special amenity.
- Complimentary parking – Premiere event tickets include standard parking.
- Tickets available now on Disney’s website: Pixar Pier Event Tickets
So how does that sound to you? Would you pay $300 to visit one day early? Here’s what our Instagram followers had to say:
Let’s take a look at how the Pier is coming along. The first thing you’ll notice is that much of the scaffolding is now being dismantled.

Scaffolds are receding on the “Pal-A-Round.” That name is going to take me a bit of getting accustomed to.

You’ll also see that new spires on Nick’s Knacks and the Lamplight Lounge.

The Pixar ball appears on some of the exterior decoration.

Adorable Snowman’s Frosted Treats remains VERY popular. But I just noticed that the “STED T” in “FROSTED TREATS” is topped in yellow snow. Someone please remind me that it’s lemon. . . please.

The Incredicoaster is in the process of being rethemed, but it’s already been in testing.

Many of those gold starbursts on the coaster have been painted red.

Jack Jack’s Cookies is under construction.

And across from Midway Mania, you can see the Poultry Palace taking shape.

The light posts in Pixar Pier are being repainted Pixar Yellow.

And inside the first launch tube . . . you can just make out the shape of Dash.

The queue entry for Midway Mania has moved to the side of the building which was under construction. That also opens up some new construction views.

The brackets for the Midway Mania sign have been painted.

And inside Nick’s Knacks shop, they are ready for the new Incredibles film. I also took a look at some of the Art on Demand.

The Passholder shirt is available again. I really love this design.

And there’s a lot of Incredibles merch. Once the film comes out there should be increased demand for these products. So if you like anything you see, it’s a good idea to buy before the film releases.

Bye Bye Buggies
There’s really nothing new here to show you. The Bugs Life Theater remains under heavy construction. But the rest of the land is still open and running . . . for now. It will all soon become a new Marvel themed land.

Flo’s Gets A Punny New Menu
Flo’s began serving a new menu this week. The names appear to have been written by the folks who designed DCA 1.0. It’s all quite punny.

Fillmore’s POT Pie. Hmmmmmmmm. A Pot joke at Disney.

Summer of Heroes 2.0
Let me start by saying it’s not really Summer of Heroes, but Disney has unveiled limited time Super Hero experiences for the exact same space in the Hollywood Pictures Backlot of DCA that they used last year for Summer of Heroes.

Thor and Loki have returned to the stage and meet and greet.

Captain America has his own meet and greet space now. He’s located near the restrooms across from Spiderman.

Black Widow has joined Black Panther in his meet and greet space. The line was long, so we didn’t get a good photo of that for you.

Pixar Shorts will be replaced by an Incredibles 2 Preview beginning today!
Once the Incredibles film opens the Pixar Shorts should return.
Disneyland also announced a Passholder event for today:

Well, that’s it for today folks. Enjoy a few parting shots. Will you be buying a ticket to the Pixar Pier preview? Looking forward to the Incredibles 2? Do you think that the Tropical Hideaway will be a good addition to Adventureland or are you disappointed that they didn’t return the Tahatian Terrace?
