Update – June 26, 2018
Please check out the following videos, which we received after the original articles were published.
We’re having a Pixar Pier hangover after 4 days of covering the new land for you. Today’s Disneyland Update shows you what opening day on the Pier looked like and the massive crowds which swarmed Disney’s newest offering. There are a lot of photos and video for you today, so give your browser a moment to load and enjoy the sights and sounds of Disney California Adventure’s new Pixar Pier.
Pixar Pier Opening Day Crowds
Saturday the 23rd was the official opening day for Pixar Pier (Media were invited on Thursday the 21st and Friday the 22nd was a special paid event). Would the crowds arrive for opening day?

And once Disney California Adventure opened at 9am, it seemed that everyone flooded directly into Pixar Pier . . . and most specifically into line for the Incredicoaster.
Yes, that “Line starts here’ sign is in the World of Color viewing area following a switchback line on the bridge into Pixar Pier.
The land itself was shoulder to shoulder at times.
But the line for the coaster did dissipate rapidly when folks decided to abandon the slow-moving line and opt for FastPass instead. By later in the evening, the 4-hour line had given way to a more reasonable 75 minutes.
Incredicoaster
We would have expected the Incredicoaster to be the big star of the opening . . . and in many ways it was.
The Incredibles arch looks great by day and night.
But while the new Shade disks over the queue look stylish and fun, they don’t provide quite enough actual shade for much of the day.
The warning sign is a fun egg shape (any Portal players out there?).
The dividing walls in the queue feature the characters from the Incredibles films.
The backstory of the ride is that the Incredibles have been asked to attend the openng of a coaster which is themed to them (meta). In the preshow video, the characters joke that they’ve just slapped a new theme on an old coaster. Disney making fun of themselves. Funny, self-aware, and true. But does it deliver? We enjoyed our rides on the coaster. But now that there are several days of guests getting a chance to ride, we’d like to know your thoughts. Did you ride? What did YOU think?
They’ve got Dash running (water jets) in front of the train.
One thing that really stands out are the new murals. They are large, stylized, and colorful.
The Incredicoaster has its own trashcan art rather than just generic Pixar Pier.
Toy Story Midway Mania
When Toy Story Midway Mania first opened, the Imagineers made a big deal out of being able to change up the games and ride media. We’ve waited for years to see Christmas or Halloween overlays . . . nothing yet. But the update of the Pier to a Pixar theme would surely mean something new . . . right?! Nope. The ride is unchanged.
There had been some talk of a new game for Midway Mania, but looks like they didn’t have the time or resources to pull it off. Would have helped pull some of the demand away from the Incredicoster. Instead, looks like demand for the attraction has dropped considerably. Everyone gets in line for the Incredicoaster and Pal-A-Round and ignores the unchanged Midway Mania.
Pixar Pal-A-Round
The Pal-A-Round is the old Fun Wheel. It’s the same ride it always was but with a new paint job and new characters on the gondolas. There’s also a new sign and a bright yellow canopy.
Do you do the sliding or fixed gondolas?
But its the food which will have people coming back. Yes, it’s on the expensive side of your Disneyland dining options, but very creative and very good.

Knick’s Knacks
The shop in Pixar Pier has been open for a bit, but it’s been updated with permanent signage.

Edna Mode is a fashion icon and merchandise item. . .
Boardwalk Signs
As far as theme goes, they’ve packed Pixar everywhere. The new billboards located on the boardwalk between Adorable Snowman and the Incredicoaster are a prime example. They’ve created original art of Pixar characters enjoying a day on the Pier.
Midway Games
Bullseye returns and is joined by 3 new games. . .

Heimlich is soon to disappear with the rest of Bugs Land, but he’s found a home here at the games of the boardwalk. You might hear him recite some of his old ride dialogue as well.
The Wall-E game has you sending the featured characters into orbit.

This next game has been having some issues. It’s like the old fishing game. You use a magnetic fishing pole to catch stars floating in a stream. Every star has a colored dot on the bottom which determines the prize. However, the stars have been flipping themselves over,
Pixar Promenade
The new bandshell is sort of a mixed bag. It’s pretty and that’s a good thing . . . but it also lacks a real stage, so only those guests closest to the ground-level performers will get a good view. Additionally, there’s little shade here and even less seating.

Paint the Night – New Incredibles Float
When Pixar Fest opened earlier this year, they promised a new Incredibles-inspired float. It has finally arrived.
I got some close-ups for you in the parade barn during the media event.
Pixar Pier Miscellaneous and Characters

There’s also a large kugel fountain which looks like a Pixar Ball. It’s located just next to the new band shell.
We also saw a ton of characters. We don’t know if this was just for the big opening weekend or if they always plan to have lots of characters in the land, but we love seeing them and it adds a lot of energy to the area.
My Paint the Night Incredibles float shoot was at 5am. So I was also able to take this quick pre-sunrise video of the Pier for you as well.
World of Color Update
Under the Pier there’s a bit of trouble brewing. One of the World of Color fountain platforms is rumored to have been seriously damaged, resulting in the return of the show being delayed. It was supposed to have reopened in time for Pixer Pier . . . but instead, dinner package tickets have been refunded and no return date has been set.
Quick Disneyland Update
Do you have a little bit of energy left after reading the above? Then let’s take a very quick look at a few items in Disneyland . . .
