Dateline Disney World was on vacation in San Francisco over the weekend, and like any good Disney fan, I couldn’t get away from the mouse. So today you get photos of the incredible Walt Disney Family Museum. If you’ve been, I hope these provide a fond memory, and if you haven’t been . . . what are you waiting for?!
But first, a little diversion close by . . .
Lucasfilm is located in the Presidio, just a short walk from the Walt Disney Family Museum.
My appreciation for all things Disney has greatly expanded.
Walt needed his animators to test new 3D looking effects for his upcoming feature-length film, Snow White. So they did a Silly Symphony short called “The Old Mill” in 1937. Its use of the multiplane camera was revolutionary and won Disney an Academy Award.
(if you haven’t seen in, here’s a YouTube video)
The museum employs extensive use of multimedia and creative display techniques. Everything changes from room to room and compels you to travel deeper and deeper into Walt’s history.
Overall, a visit to the Disney Family Museum is a must-do if you find yourself in the San Francisco area. It only cost me $25 for admission, and it gave me chills the entire time I was walking through. If you are a Disney fan, consider this required viewing.
