They’re growing some new scares down on the Farm, and the forecast calls for a spooky fog to roll in tonight and remain through Halloween. Yes, Scary Farm season has arrived! Our fearless leader, Dusty Sage, will be back tomorrow with his review of the opening night for Knott’s Scary Farm 2018! But now, let’s take a look around the park and see what they’ve scared up . . .
2018 Scary Farm Nights:
- September-20, 21, 22, 27, 28, 29, 30
- October- 4, 5, 6, 7, 11, 12, 13, 14, 18, 19, 20, 21, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 31
If you’ve got the 29th of September available, come join the MiceChatters. We had just 6 tickets left as I was writing this:
Now, off to the farm . . .
Ghost Town
As usual, Ghost Town is decked out for Halloween. This year they’ve added lots of real pumpkins throughout the park and gardens areas. As you wander Ghost Town streets, it’s creepy during the day. Imagine how this will all look in the creepy glow of night with a heavy fog drifting between the spiders, skeletons and tombstones . . .
We can see the facade for the Red Barn (a blood-soaked maze).
We are excited for the return of Timber Mountain Log Ride: Halloween Hootenanny. During the day it’s a family-friendly attraction but during Scary Farm there are scare actors placed throughout the ride. It’s a real highlight of the season for us. And that’s Disneyland’s former Billy Hill and the Hillbillies (now Krazy Kirk and the Hillbillies) who are singing the song written just for the Hootenanny!
Heading over to The Forsaken Lake . . . the area between Camp Snoopy (under Silver Bullet) to Fiesta Village is a new scare zone this year.
The Gargoyles that were in the fountain last year now decorate the walkway between Silver Bullet and Fiesta Village.
Over in the Bird Cage Theatre, some world-class magicians will host “CONJURE – Magic and Mirth,” during the nightly Scary Farm.
Over at the Calico Mine Stage, Knott’s hosts the annual “The Hanging.” When we visited on Saturday they were still putting the stage set together. It’s always cringe-worthy, but also not-to-be-missed.
“Who’s ready for a Hanging?!”
Fiesta Village
The return of the Dia Los Muertos props.
For Scary Farm, Knott’s is having a live DJ performing each night.
Boardwalk
As we enter the CarnEvil Scare Zone on the Boardwalk, we can see touches of the theming throughout the land.
Moving over to the fountain, we can see that vines full of Pumpkins have taken over. It’s a great photo spot.
Here are this year’s Famly T-shirt designs with HangTime now on the art,
As well Mummy Snoopy…it glows!
Camp Snoopy
Camp Snoopy has the problem of being designed as the Children’s section but also hosting a scare zone at night for adults. While I do think the props for The Hallows scare zone are a little too scary for a Charlie Brown themed area, they are fun for adults.
Over in at the picnic gazebo, Spiders adorn the structure. They are cute.
For Scary Farm specifically, the giant scarecrow is now perched on top of the rock caves ready to scare.
Knott’s Spooky Farm is coming:
And still a week away is Knott’s Spooky Farm. The daytime family-friendly “Spooky Farm” runs on Weekends (Saturdays and Sundays) September 28th through October 28th and on Halloween Day.
The Fun on the only weekends contains (days listed above):
- Trick or Treating with the Shopkeepers of Ghost Town (Kids 3-11 only!)
- Magician at the Calico Saloon
- Spooky Story Time at the Birdcage Theatre
- Halloween Costume Contest at the Camp Snoopy Theatre
The Fun on the daily basis throughout the season:
- The Monsters Are Coming show at the Camp Snoopy Theatre
- “A Trip To Camp Spooky” overlay on the Grand Sierra Railroad
- Timber Mountain Log Ride: Halloween Hootenanny (Starting today, September 20th)
…Plus more!
The Monsters Are Coming show at Camp Snoopy Theatre is one of my favorite seasonal shows. Yep, I’m not afraid to tell you that I enjoy the occasional kids show . . . especially when it’s a good show!
Around the Farm:
The Refurbishment at the Indian Trails restrooms continues. There are now separately walled off entrances for Men and Women. Before, the Men entrance was only visible from the walkway and Women’s entrance was behind a blind wall. It could be difficult telling the doors apart at night. Also, this restrooms had a 2nd entrance along the back (facing the Butterfield Stagecoach station) that now has been removed.
2 “Family” restrooms have been built on the back side of the restrooms. These will be the first restrooms in the park of this type. These are welcome additions as Knott’s continues to focus on the family demographic, as well as guests with special needs.
Over at Hollywood Hills Pizza, the Tiki theming remains up from the Beach Blanket Beagle show from the adjacent Schulz Theatre…and yes, they are still advertising the Dole Whip soft serve.
Engine 41 has returned from refurbishment. Hopefully, we can see both the 41 and 340 out on the line, maybe on alternating days.
Just outside the Farm, in the main parking lot, the building under construction looks to be a new facility for the Knott’s Picnic Area. It does not look like a restroom facility as I had hoped due to the outer wall being built around it.
As the season starts we only have a handful of tickets left…
