New story and detail are on the way to Knott’s Berry Farm’s Bigfoot Rapids, which will be dethroned and renamed “Calico River Rapids”. For decades, the Log Ride and Mine Train have been the heart and soul of Knott’s Berry farm with their rich storytelling and animatronics. Knott’s hopes to extend that Ghost Town magic to Bigfoot Rapids with new music, story, figures and detail. And here’s where we get really excited, we hear that much of that work is being done by Garner Holt Productions, the company responsible for restoring and enhancing the beloved Log Ride and Mine Train!
Knott’s explains:
A new expedition in an uncharted territory awaits eager explorers with the upcoming debut of Calico River Rapids, opening at Knott’s Berry Farm in summer 2019. Knott’s white water raft ride, currently known as BigFoot Rapids, will undergo a major renovation with the addition of new features to the attraction including new animatronics, themed show scenes, a new story overlay and plenty of dynamic water effects.
Calico River Rapids will take voyagers on a search for new land through the outskirts of Calico. Rafters will encounter a variety of wild surprises along the way, such as roaring rapids, and indigenous wildlife. The circular raft ride, which seats six passengers, will traverse through unexpected twists and turns, rushing waters and rapid currents as it navigates the unexplored river path.
The ride is currently drained and being prepped to install new figures.
And here’s some concept art for what’s planned. As you can see, there are now actual scenes and interactive opportunities for guests watching from the pathways.

Garner Holt made the following statement on the
Of course, there’s more that hasn’t been revealed. While this is not a new attraction by any stretch, Knott’s is taking the expensive step of further tieing this attraction into the lore of the park. We’re thrilled to see the continual upgrade of Knott’s Berry Farm and attempts to strengthen the themed side of their operation.
We can’t wait to see this family-friendly attraction when it reopens. What about you?
