Celebrate at Disneyland
As I’m sure you’ve already heard, Mickey Mouse, favorite Disney character of millions the world over, recently celebrated his 90th Birthday, and this is only the beginning of an epic year for him! The Disney Parks held the World’s Biggest Mouse Party across the globe on November 18th to honor the legacy of Mickey and Minnie Mouse. It was announced at D23’s “Destination D: Celebrating Mickey Mouse” in Florida a few weeks ago that the Disneyland Resort will keep the party going with a new event called “Get Your Ears On – A Mickey and Minnie Celebration” that starts in January 2019. According to the announcement, this will be the biggest celebration of Mickey and Minnie Mouse in Disneyland history with new entertainment, merchandise and food and beverage offerings.
First, a new nighttime projection show called “Mickey’s Mix Magic” will debut on January 18th, Disney is promoting this as a family-fun dance party. This show is going to replace the nightly firework show, but on the weekends, the show will be plussed up with fireworks.
Then, starting January 25th, “Mickey’s Soundsational Parade”, a fan favorite– and my all-time favorite– Disneyland daytime parade, will be returning to Disneyland park with a new opening featuring Mickey Mouse, a classic larger-than-life Mickey pull toy, and Chip ‘n’ Dale with a giant cake for the celebration.
And for those who love scavenger hunts in the park, Disneyland will offer a Valentine Surprise scavenger hunt from January 22 through February 18. Guests will purchase a commemorative map and stickers from select merchandise locations and then search for hidden valentines that Minnie has left for Mickey around the park. This sounds similar to the egg hunts at Easter, a fun family activity.
Celebrate at Walt Disney World
The celebration will also take place in Florida at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom with a new “Move It! Shake It! MousekeDance It! Street Party” that will take place several times a day starting January 18, 2019. In the Town Square Theater, Minnie will join Mickey to greet guests in their special 90th Birthday celebration outfits. Pluto will be taking Minnie’s place at Pete’s Silly Sideshow where she normally greets guests. Disney hasn’t announced if Minnie will talk to guests in the Town Square Theater as Mickey currently does.
And starting Fall 2019, guests will be able to enjoy “Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway” at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in the Chinese Theater. This will be Mickey & Minnie’s first-ever ride-through attraction. The attraction is rumored to be coming to Disneyland as a new addition to Toontown, but Disney has not yet made an official announcement.
Celebrate on a Disney Cruise
Even Disney Cruise Line is joining in on the celebration next summer with a new deck party celebrating Mickey & Minnie Mouse, exclusively on the Disney Fantasy on seven-night cruises.

And then there’s the merchandise! The Disney Parks will have special merchandise celebrating Mickey & Minnie’s 90th Birthday including apparel, pins, plush, and more. If you attended Mickey & Minnie’s Birthday bash at one of the Disney Parks on November 18th or D23’s Destination D, you have already seen a few special Birthday items that were exclusive to the birthday weekend.
There was a Mickey Mouse Birthday plush, a raglan shirt, a limited edition pin, a free button for theme park attendees (while supplies lasted), and the Mickey Mouse Sipper that was exclusive to the Disneyland Resort. This was a limited edition item that was only available on the West Coast that sold out within hours. Actually, most all of the 90th celebration merchandise sold out in hours. I did see a few of the plush at the World of Disney on November 19th, but all of the other items were sold out on the 18th.
Mickey & Minnie Mouse 90th Retail Merchandise
If you missed out on the limited edition merchandise during Mickey and Minnie’s birthday weekend and can’t wait until January for the new celebration merchandise, there’s still some great 90th birthday items you can pick up now.
The folks at Just Play, Funko, Vans and more have already released some fun merchandise to start Mickey’s milestone celebration. The merchandise can be found in most Big Box stores like Target and Wal-Mart as well as online at Amazon and the Disney Store.
Funko Mickey’s 90th POP! Figures
To start, Funko has released five POP! figures of Mickey in his various costumes over the years including Apprentice Mickey, Conductor Mickey, Brave Little Tailor, Firefighter Mickey and Steamboat Willie. These POP! figures are available in stores and online for around $11.99.
However, there are also a few exclusive POP! figures. For the NY Comic Con, a Little Whirlwind Mickey POP! figure was available and can still be purchased on eBay. At the time of publication, this exclusive POP! figure was selling for around $23.97 on eBay and about $20 on Amazon. But since it is rare, the price is sure to go up.

Gamestop also has an exclusive Gamer Mickey POP! that was released on November 1st. The figure is $11.99 in Gamestop stores and on their website.
On October 28, 2018, Target released an exclusive 10” Black & White Mickey POP! figure for $29.99. This figure was pretty popular, so if you haven’t picked this one up yet, good luck finding him in Target stores or on Target’s website.
And finally, three more Mickey’s 90th POP! figures are scheduled to be released in December: Band Concert Mickey, Plane Crazy and Holiday Mickey. These figures have a suggested retail price of $11.99 and will be the basic Funko POP! size.
Funko has also released 12 different mini vinyl figures, 3 Pocket POP! keychain figures and 4 Mickey pen toppers for Mickey’s big celebration.
These vary in price depending on the retailer but can be found at Hot Topic, BoxLunch and Amazon.
Just Play Mickey’s 90th Collectibles
Now let’s take a look at some of the fun items that Just Play has already released.
First, there’s my favorite which is a Collectible Deluxe Figure Set. The box set includes 10 Mickey Mouse plastic figures which are each approximately 3” tall. The figures feature Mickey in different poses and costumes over his 90 years in entertainment. A Golden Mickey Mouse figure is included in the box set for his Golden Celebration. This box set is my favorite merchandise item from Just Play because I have always loved Disney PVC figures and even though Disney does not call these PVC figures anymore due to safety and environmental reasons, they are basically the same thing.
The 10 piece box set can be purchased at Target, Walmart, Amazon and the Disney Store. The 10 piece box set’s suggested retail price is $24.99.
You can also get even more of these cute figures in the form of mystery packs. They are available in packs of one or two figures and contain mini figures that are slightly smaller than the figures in the box set. The mini mystery figures are approximately 2.25” to 2.5” tall.
The two pack of collectible mini figures comes in a Mickey Mouse head shaped plastic container that can be reused to put fun treats inside for special occasions like Halloween, Christmas or Easter.
The one pack mini mystery figure comes in a plastic tear open bag.
The two pack of mini mystery figures suggested retail price is $4.99 and the one pack is $2.99.
Both options draw from the same collection, so there’s no rare figures exclusive to either size. However, the mini mystery packs include several different figures that cannot be found in the 10 piece Box Set.
Walmart and Amazon also have a 5 piece Collectible Figure Set with special figures not available neither in the 10 piece box set nor as mystery figures. This collectible figure set has a suggested retail of $12.99.
Target has exclusive rights to three Poseable Figures for Mickey’s 90th: Mouseketeer Band Mickey, Steamboat Willie Mickey and Today’s Mickey. Each figure retails for $6.99.
And finally, Just Play has also released Mickey’s 90th plush. Most of the plush figures can be purchased individually for $7.99; however, opt to buy the box set which includes Brave Little Tailor Mickey and Today’s Mickey bean bag plush. These two are not sold separately and are only available in the plush box set. The Mickey Through The Years box set retails for $39.99 and can be purchased at Walmart and Amazon.
Also Target has an Exclusive 15” Steamboat Willie plush and Walmart and Amazon has a 15” pie-eyed Mickey plush. Each plush retails for $24.99.
As a side note: Target has most of the Mickey’s 90th Just Play items stocked and available in their stores. However, with Walmart, I have only been able to find most of their Just Play items for Mickey’s 90th only available online at Walmart.com and not in their store.
Funko and Just Play are just the beginning of all of the fabulous merchandise currently available for Mickey’s 90th Celebration. Vans is joining in on the fun releasing shoes and a few clothing items this month. Even Nabisco is joining the celebration with special Mickey Mouse 90th Birthday Cake Oreos. Oh, Boy! And they are good too! I bought a package for $2.99 at Target and they are yummy!
With so much merchandise already available and even more to come, I need to get a second job just to pay for my obsessive habit. But who can resist! Mickey is one of the most beloved characters of all time and I expect this to be a celebration we will all remember for a long time. And what better way to remember the magic but with a few Mickey’s 90th merchandise items displayed in your home or office.
